Dutch Apple Pie

This recipe is the best. It is a pie, with a crumble top. Or, maybe it's a cobbler with a pastry bottom? It's apples and cinnamon and sugar and for gosh sakes, if you are making someone a dessert ... this is a good one.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Pie Crust - homemade or purchased

Apple Mixture

  • C Apples - Granny Smith - peeled, cored and sliced medium thick (~5 medium apples)
  • 1 Tbl Lemon Juice - Fresh !
  • ½ C Sugar
  • ¼ C Brown Sugar - Firmly packed
  • 3 Tbl Flour
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ Tsp Nutmeg

Crumb Topping

  • ¾ C Flour
  • ¼ C Sugar
  • ¼ C Brown Sugar - Firmly packed
  • C Butter - Room Temp

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375℉
  • Peel and chop your apples - place into a big bowl.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the chopped apples (Apple Mixture) and stir.
    Apples, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, nutment, a smidge of lemon juice and flour in a large bowl
  • Make the topping by mixing all of the crumb topping ingredients in another bowl.
  • Place the Apples into your pie pan / pie crust.
  • Top the apples with the mixed crumb mixture.
  • Bake for 50 minutes till just slightly browned on top.
  • Share with friends.

Notes

While the above recipe is fairly perfect...You could consider toasting some pecans in the oven @350 for about 5 minutes - just till you smell them and they are a little toasty - be careful they burn quickly! You could then chop up the pecans and add them to the crumb topping.  Woweee...
