As you may have seen, I did a post on how to deseed a pomegranate. (Also known as freeing the Arils from a fresh pomegranate.) As I was getting the arils out of the fruit I thought, self, have we ever had a pomegranate martini?

Pooh Bear Think think think

I did the pooh bear – think think think – and I decided… “No, I have not ever made a pomegranate martini.”

Off I go to the recipe index in the sky…

I read and read and read and then come up with my own interpretation and give it a go. Now, you can’t just recipe test something once. So I give it another go. Just to be sure, I invite a friend over and ask her to confirm – it’s good, right ?????? Yes, she says. Yum. OK… It’s not just me. Therefore, we shall, in fact, publish.

So here we are.

Do not Torture Yourself.

That could be a heading for a lot of things. However, let’s be clear. The martini made with FRESH Pomegranate Arils was delicious. Now and again you may want to splurge and treat yourself and make yourself one or two. OR –> You may wish to buy a container of POM juice.

The first time I made it from fresh. And, it was absolutely 1,000 % delightful. Fresh, fruity and yes, absolutely delicious. Nine out of 10 other times I used POM juice and it was good. Quite good. The thing about being an adult and making pomegranate martinis is that you get to choose which way you go ! You have to decide, quite literally, whether the juice is worth the squeeze.

You can go the long way – by shujshing up the fresh arils in a small baby cuisinart and then straining out the seeds….. all for 2-3 oz of fresh juice….

Or you could use a bottle of Pom Juice !

Cointreau, Pom Juice from a bottle, Tito's vodka and a lime. All in front of a slate slab with the Bridget's Kitchen Logo on it.

Don’t skimp. Get Fresh Citrus.

You are going to need a whole lime per person – or half a big juicy lemon per person. I recommend about 3/4 oz fresh citrus juice per martini == 1.5 Tbl fresh Juice.

OK – READY ?

Pomegranate Vodka Cointreau Martini

This one is delicious and a real winner. You can use fresh Pom Juice (a bit of work) or Pom Juice from a bottle. Get yo-self some Vodka and Cointreau and a piece of citrus and you are in business.

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Baby Cuisinart If going with Fresh Pom Juice
  • Strainer If going with Fresh Pom Juice

Ingredients

  • 3 oz Vodka (I like Titos)
  • 3 oz Pomegranate Juice (fresh ????)
  • 1.5 oz Cointreau (orange flavor)
  • 3/4 oz Fresh Citrus (one lime or half a juicy lemon)
  • 1 Tbl Simple Syrup – Optional (1/2 sugar / 1/2 water simmered and cooled)

Instructions

Determine if you are using fresh Pom Juice

  • If using fresh pom juice – deseed a pom. Place arils in a baby cuisinart or blender. Pour mixture through a strainer to get out the seeds. Use only the juice.
  • Or Pour juice out of a bottle.

Determine if you are wanting a squirt of additional sweetness

  • Suggest you make it once without sweetness and then with and decide how you like it. Any which way you'll be happy – it's kind of a game time decision for me. I bought an OXO squirt bottle and have simple syrup in the fridge. It lasts a month or more. —> Add equal parts Sugar and water to a small pan. Simmer till sugar dissolved into water. Cool and save in fridge up to a month.

Add Cocktail ingredients into cocktail shaker

  • Shake.
  • Pour
  • Enjoy.

Notes

The calories EXCLUDE the use of simple syrup.
